In the world of architecture, aesthetic appeal is almost as important as functionality. Cornices are horizontal, moulded, projecting components that are added to the top-most edges of an architectural composition and act as courses that effectively crown the wall or building element on which they’re fitted.

Cornice décor designs and dimensions vary; if you use the right supplier, you can find an aesthetically pleasing cornice for almost any type of wall or structural element. In many cases, a good cornice can also help throw rainwater off the face of the building and contribute to the structure’s longevity, although the cornice has over time lost its functional significance.

The cornice has a long and relatively straightforward history, and has been used in architectural décor for centuries. These architectural elements have their origins in primitive projecting eaves and can be considered as derivatives of these classical roof-underside elements.

For example, while early Greek Doric and Ionic cornices originate from wooden roof forms, the Egyptian cavetto-and-fillet cornice design is directly derived from overhanging papyrus stalks which formed the eaves of olden-day shelters.

Early in their development, cornices lost their structural relevance and became decorative architectural elements used all around Europe, and later all around the world. There are several different types of cornices available with varying designs, including:

  • The Sante cornice;
  • The Titan cornice;
  • The Peroni cornice, and;
  • The Biance cornice

As a cornice décor wholesaler, Cornice King is a leading supplier of cornices in South Africa. Take a look at our catalogue below and let us know which cornice catches your eye.

XPS & EPS Cornices

Cornices supplied in quality EPS and XPS materials

The XPS cornice is manufactured in a continuous extrusion process that produces a closed cell form of foam insulation. The EPS cornice on the other hand is manufactured by expanding spherical beads in a mould and then using heat and pressure to fuse the beads together.

EPS cornices are less expensive but XPS cornices make up for their price tag in their strength and smoother finishes. Both materials can be painted with any acrylic (water-base) paint, giving you dynamic versatility to satisfy your clients. As a general note, cornices have a standard length of 2 metres.

Moulded polystyrene cornices

Moulded polystyrene cornices

Polystyrene is a popular material in cornice design and manufacturing, mainly because of their structural makeup and versatility in design options. Polystyrene cornices are strong, lightweight, and cost-effective compared to their XPS and EPS counterparts. Polystyrene cornices tend not to crack overtime and also have the functional benefit of adding insulation to your home or building.

Our durable, lightweight polystyrene cornices are available in different styles and designs, and are easy to paint over. Check out our catalogue below and let us know which polystyrene cornice floats your boat.

Reliable Ceiling Materials

There are several types of materials you can use to execute on a flawless ceiling design for your clients. From PVC ceiling panels and tiles, to wooden panels and polystyrene ceiling materials, you’re truly spoiled for choice. Whether you’re looking to boost the aesthetic appeal of any given room, or you’re looking to match a room’s ceiling with its overall design, you have a handsome selection of ceiling materials to choose from. Cornice King is a leading South African supplier of strong and durable PVC and polystyrene ceiling panels and tiles. Check out our catalogue below, choose your material, and leave it to us to get it to you on time and without hassle.

PVC Ceilings

PVC Ceilings

PVC ceiling materials are mind-blowingly durable, 100% water-resistant, incredibly affordable, and easy to install, making them the ideal choice for most homeowners. Fitment of this ceiling material should be to standard brandering spacing.

PVC Ceilings are fire retardant, which means that they cannot burn. With a direct flame of 60 degrees Celsius, the PVC will melt, but will not combust, giving you an extra layer of security against an unfortunate outbreak of fire.

The panels can be polished to their original condition using a soft, non-abrasive cleaning agent or substance, and can save your client an arm and a leg (and a whole lot of time) with their low maintenance-to-lifespan ratio. Check out our catalogue of reliable PVC ceiling options below.

Polystyrene Ceilings

Polystyrene Ceilings

As with most polystyrene-based décor elements, this type of ceiling material offers the added benefit of providing your client’s home or building with effective insulation, allowing them to save on their heating and cooling. Polystyrene ceilings are highly resistant to water and vapour, making them impervious to chemical corrosion.

Polystyrene ceilings are highly durable and insusceptible to corrosive bacteria, as well as ageing-inducing wear-and-tear. Our polystyrene ceiling panels and tiles are also versatile and can be decorated to match the aesthetic of any room. Whether you’re looking for stunning ceiling designs for your client’s living room, bedroom, kitchen, or toilet, you can rely on our polystyrene ceiling panels and tiles to satisfy your needs.

Polystyrene Ceiling Medallions

Polystyrene Ceiling Medallions

Ceiling medallions are decorative ornaments that are usually round in shape. They’re used to dress a ceiling and add a dynamic aesthetic appeal to whichever room they’re installed in. Ceiling medallions can also be used in tandem with their decorative qualities to cover the fixture ceiling box of a hanging light.

These interior décor elements can be made from different types of materials, including wood, plaster, and papier-mâché; modern ceiling medallions though are mostly made from polystyrene and polyurethane, allowing artisans to hand-mould the medallions for maximum aesthetic appeal.

Our selection of classic-style polystyrene and polyurethane ceiling medallions is the perfect fit for several interior décor styles, specifically traditional and modern design styles (as well as all their derivatives). Check out our selection below and let us know which ceiling medallion would match your home.

Polyurethane Ceiling Medallions

Polyurethane Ceiling Medallions

Polyurethane is a polymer that is made from organic units that are combined by carbamate links. They offer good insulation, are relatively eco-friendly, and have a great strength-to-weight ratio.

Polyurethane ceiling medallions are strong, versatile, and highly durable, making them the perfect investment for homeowners who have a never-ending itch to make their interior home design stand out from the rest. When it comes to home décor and design, you won’t go wrong with our selection of ceiling medallions.
